Letter to Agriculture Victoria

The Animal Law Institute was recently joined by Lawyers for Animals, Voiceless, and NSW Young Lawyers of the Law Society of NSW, to write to Agriculture Victoria in respect of disturbing footage taken at Bridgewater Poultry. The footage from the commercial egg farm captures hens being kicked, thrown and otherwise physically abused.

We believe that this behaviour constitutes both cruelty under section 9 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 (Vic), and aggravated cruelty under section 10. Our letter urges the responsible entity to initiate criminal prosecution against the individuals involved in the incident.
