The Animal Law Institute is the only national non-profit community legal centre that is dedicated to protecting animals and advocating for their interests through the Australian legal system
We provide legal advice on a pro bono basis to organisations and individuals whose interests and objects include the prevention of cruelty to animals, the improvement of animal welfare and the achievement of animal rights. We also represent interested parties in disputes and litigation, where possible.
We provide lawyers with access to Continuing Professional Development, fact sheets on topical issues related to animal law and an animal law case database. The Animal Law Institute is also the organiser of the Australia New Zealand Intervarsity Moot on Animal Law and Animal Law Week.
We carry out activities aimed at encouraging law reform to improve animal protection. This includes making key written and oral submissions to Federal, State and Territory bodies and liaising and collaborating with other organisations or individuals to promote and foster advocacy for the welfare of animals around Australia.
